Security Risks in Clouds
Consumer-oriented cloud applications make it really easy for employees to share sensitive corporate documents, maybe too easy, warns Maria Korolov.
Maria Korolov says companies should prepare themselves for an environment in which cloud services are only going to proliferate. That means, “more and more computing power will now be outside corporate control, even during the workday itself.” There is one big threat in cloud computing, “And that is the threat of your employees sneaking in consumer cloud services without corporate approval.” Free or cheap clould apps are making it almost too easy to share information and many employees might not even realize that there are potential problems there. She suggests one solution is offering staff enterprise-friendly alternatives to popular Web apps.
