The New York Times editorializes that Republicans are working diligently to make dire changes to some of the most crucial areas in women’s rights: abortion, access to healthcare for abortion services, domestic violence and equal pay. Democrats accuse the Republicans of having a war-like agenda for women, but Republicans deny any attack against women. However, the accusation is easy to believe considering some of the changes they are lobbying. Women will need to go through various processes in order for an abortion to be approved. There will be no public funding for the medical procedure necessary for an abortion. The Violence Against Women Act will be restructured to limit the circumstances it will cover, and a repeal of a 2009 law that permit women to sue for pay discrimination has been signed.
What’s the Big Idea?
The Republicans are on a mission to set women back in society. The criticism towards the welfare and equality of women is evident. The fact that they are honing in on areas that are in the best interest of women is disturbing.
