Live from St. John’s Newfoundland: The JUNO Awards

Today, I’m blogging from the JUNO Awards in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The JUNOs are Canada’s equivalent of the Grammys. The JUNOs honor Canadian musicians and ensembles. I’m here with my partner, Darcy James Argue, the bandleader of the steampunk jazz big band, Secret Society. Darcy is nominated for a Juno in the category of best contemporary jazz album for Infernal Machines (New Amsterdam Records). Check out Secret Society’s website, where you can listen to recordings of their live shows for free.

Tonight is the awards ceremony at the St. John’s Convention Center where artists will be recognized in more than 40 categories. Tomorrow is the televised component of the awards ceremony. Unfortunately, best contemporary jazz is not a televised category. Special thanks to our friend Thomas Kleinert, a costume designer who helped us pick out our killer vintage outfits for less; and to pundit/blogger/new media doyenne Megan Carpentier for featuring me in her forthcoming video for The Gloss on getting the red carpet look for less.
