A Harvest for Monsanto: Company Exec Wins Award for GM Foods
Monsanto executive Robert T. Fraley was awarded The World Food Prize for his work in developing genetically modified crops.
The $250,000 World Food Prize is given to people who improve the “quality, quantity or availability” of food in the world, and one of this year’s co-recipients is Robert T. Fraley, the executive vice president and chief technology officer at Monsanto.
Fraley, along with two other scientists, was awarded the prize for his work in developing genetically modified crops with high yields and that are resistant to pests, harsh climates and diseases.
Kenneth M. Quinn, the president of the World Food Prize Foundation,told The New York Timesthis advancement in biotechnology “met the test of demonstrating it would impact millions of people and enhance their lives.”
