Important Things You Should Do This Recession

The secret is out the bag…We are in a recession.  Unfortunately there has been a tremendous amount of economic and personal suffering. My girl Helen Keller, okay not my girl but would have been a “friend in my head” states it best “When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened up for us” So what are the top things you can do this recession to ensure goals are met, standards are set and you are even more marketable when exiting this slump??  We are turning those recession blues into “know how” do’s!

  1. Network – Although a recession is not the only reason to network, now may seem like the best time to expand your horizons.  Getting to know people in different industries is crucial.  You may want to focus your network on those industries that are doing well (i.e. medical, accounting, finance, education and nonprofit).  The following may help: www.linkedin.com, www.facebook.com, www.yorz.com, www.ecademy.com, www.ryze.com
  2. Go back to school – You might as well make yourself more marketable.  Trust me; the competition is only going to get worse with new graduates and people experienced in a particular field.  Take this time to get or complete that undergrad degree, maximize on certificate programs or if you are feeling like you really want to step up your game -Take your butt to grad school!
  3. Breathe, Stretch, Shake– That’s right…take it easy.  Times are hard for many of us, but getting your panties or boxer briefs in a bunch doesn’t do much to solve the problem.  Besides wedgies are uncomfortable.  Adopt a good exercise program (yoga, Pilates, cardio, etc).  Exercise does more than just fit you into that little back dress or those muscle shirts many of us women hate anywayz.  Exercise stimulates you to think positively and logically.  You will be surprised at just how much more you can accomplish with some exercise.
  4. Prioritize – Whether you are spending too much money on shoes, clothes, your hair or partying, it is time that you prioritize you life beginning with your finances!  When in doubt, the key is not to prioritize your schedule, but schedule your priorities – Thanks Stephen Convey.  Life is for living, but sometimes you have to accept the harsh reality and live within budgetary constraints…Am I getting through to ya?!? Moving along..
  5. Although, I strongly think we are moving out of one of the worst recessions in decades, take this as a learning experience!  Think of the three R’s

    Spend Reasonably

    Reward Big

    Relax Often
