Handy Contraption

Scientists have developed the first artificial hand with feeling.

Scientists from Italy and Sweden have developed “the first artificial hand that has feeling”, according to the BBC. The robotic contraption, which resembles something from the TV show the Bionic Woman, has been attached to the arm of a 22-year old man who lost his own hand through cancer. He claims to be able to feel sensations when wearing the device. In a short film he appears able to pick up small items and complete fiddly tasks that would normally be difficult for someone using a prosthetic hand. Researchers say the artificial hand works by connecting human nerve endings to tiny electronic sensors.
